Buddies

This year, the three early childhood classes will pair up with one of the three third grade classes. This morning, we met with out third grade buddies for the first time. Third grade came into our room and and we sat together for introductions. To start, we introduced ourselves and soon shared song and cheers we like to do in our classrooms. The Sparrows requested that we sing the ABCs and Wheels on the Bus,  and third grade sang Row Row Row your Boat, and taught us a beaver cheer. To close our circle, we all sang This Little Light of Mine.

Following introductions, friends engaged in choice time with one another. The Sparrows showed the third graders different areas of our classroom. Friends built magnatile structures together and worked on puzzles.

Friends sat together creating playdough sculptures, and drawing pictures for one another.

Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

We are so excited to partner with third grade this year, and look forward to sharing in many activities and projects together. Since we are now buddies, the Sparrows and third grade will pair up for Meeting for Worship once we start walking over to the Meeting House.

Looking for acorns, or coconuts as the Sparrows like to say!

Constructing a chain reaction.

Mixing up a potion to help a "sick" friend.

Today, we began our Handwriting without Tears program in a large group. The Sparrows circled up and focused on writing using big lines and little lines. We sang a catchy song that helps remind us where to start our letters...at the top! With the main focus being on the letter L, friends discussed what we would need to form the letter. Once it was decided that we need a big line and little line, we then discussed placement. First friends used the wooden pieces to create L, next were given a dry erase marker to write the letter themselves, and then used their fingers to trace over the lines that create L. We identified L's in the classroom and practiced the letter sound.

To go to lunch, each friend gave a word that begins with the letter L.

Ask your Sparrow what they did with their third grade buddies and/or what sound the letter L makes.
