Spanish and Math Workshop

Today in Spanish, friends focused on numbers. Alicia did our beginning routine, which friends really enjoyed, especially when asked Como estas?

Each Sparrow was given a bingo board and dotters. Alicia would flip over a card, say the number in Spanish, and then friends would look to see whether or not they had that number to place a dotter on top of.

Throughout the day you could hear friends practicing their Spanish speaking skills by counting from uno to diez.

Ask your Sparrow if they can count to ten in Spanish.

Following Spanish, we transitioned over to the morning meeting rug, where friends participated in doing the Hokey Pokey. The Sparrows really connected with the song and had an absolute ball singing and doing the moves! There was so much excitement happening in our room during this time that friends from other classes stopped to peek in!

Soon friends settled down to find out what we were doing next. In going over our schedule, a friend read that coming up next was math workshop. The Sparrows took part in math workshop today, with a focus on patterns. Before going over to the different centers, as a group we read a book about patterns, and reviewed what makes a pattern a pattern.

At one table were counting bears with cards. The cards gave friends a visual to a pattern, where friends had to match the corresponding sizes and colors, and depending on the card figure out what came next.

At another table were colored dotters and blank pattern templates. Friends chose two to three colors and were able to create their own pattern.

At a third center were the blank pattern templates, along with foam colored shapes and glue. Friends first created their pattern using shapes and colors, and then pasted them onto the paper. Some friends chose to create their pattern and then use markers to draw what they created.

The Sparrows did an awesome job actively participating in our pattern workshop!

Ask your Sparrow to create a pattern and/or identify patterns founds at home/in their environment.
