Starry Night and More!

Yesterday's presenters:

Zoë - Eagle Ray
Fact: Females are larger than males.

Henry - Whiptail stingray
Fact: They eat fish, clams, crab and shrimp.

Yesterday friends also worked on a Spring flower project. Hopefully our warm and colorful Spring thoughts will help Spring to start to make its presence known!

Friends printed their hands on paper, and then used their fingers to make dots to represent flower petals.

Today our day began in art class with Donna. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh, the Sparrows created their own versions of Starry Night. Friends took their seats at the table and got to work! At each spot were a purple and blue piece of paper. On the purple sheet was a squiggly line. Friends used scissors to cut along the squiggly line, and then pasted the purple cutout on top of the blue paper. Once this step was complete, friends used pastels to draw the moon. Friends used their fingers to trace over and spread out the pastels. The Sparrows liked this technique!

Friends were given tiny blue squares to glue on top of the purple cutout. Friends created houses out of these, drawing windows and triangle roofs with a white pastel.

Next, friends pasted a circle moon on top of the glowy circle they drew with a yellow pastel, and crinkled up blue tissue paper to add texture for the sky.

The final touch was to use a pompom to dot special glue on top of the paper to create stars. When this was complete, Donna asked all friends to come over to the closet to see something very cool! Donna showed friends how the special paint GLOWED in the dark!

Great work, Sparrows!

Over in music, we began with moving our bodies to tempo. Today's song was Fireflies by Owl City. Once the song was over friends gathered in a circle to sing our hello song, Jambo. Following Jambo, we took out our hands and used them for Cows. Each finger represents a cow, and in the song each cow does a different motion or sound.

Soon, Keisha gave the sign to stand and friends stood up to take part in large movement activities, Ponies and Jack in the Box.

Before we sang our goodbye song, friends had their first song practice for the Spring Program!

After choice, and before a couple presentations, friends danced to a GoNoodle video.
