CLAY

In art today, we worked with clay! Donna explained to us that clay comes from the Earth. Donna taught us how to use our palms to push down the clay to get the air out. The Sparrows used all their muscle power to get the air out!

After pushing down the clay, friends broke it into two pieces to roll into one big ball, and one small ball. The Sparrows rolled their clay into balls using their palms. Once the clay was rolled, friends received a fork to score the clay.  After scoring, friends put a bit of water on each ball and then placed them on top of one another to create a snowman!

Next art class, friends will make accessories for their snowmen and snowwomen.

Ask your Sparrow what they liked about working with clay.

Later on, as we entered music, friends explored the instruments that Keisha set out. Friends took turns playing with drums, bells, tambourines, and other interesting instruments. Following that, we did our beginning routine.

Today we did something called Seven Jumps. Friends walked in a circle holding hands. Once you could hear the violin start to play, friends stopped, clapped their hands three times, and worked on their balance by lifting their feet. As the song went on and friends stopped, friends lifted their feet, knelt down, and the end result was to end curled in a ball.

Following art and music, the Sparrows came back to the classroom for snack, and soon got ready for outdoor play.
After outdoor play, friends hung up their coats and had some choice time. During choice, friends worked on their number awareness and one to one correspondence in small groups. We also read a story about snow. We reviewed some of out weather words, and learned a new one, condensation.

Ask your Sparrow how snowflakes form.
